Course, coach or consultant: which one you need depends on one question

One question separates the three. Do you want to be doing this work yourself in six months, or do you want it done? If you want it done, hire a consultant. If you want to know enough to hold a view, a course is enough. If you want to be the one doing it, you need someone sitting with you on your own work.

Which AI course is best for a business owner in India?

The best course for an owner is the shortest one that gives you the vocabulary, and then you stop. A course is built for a room of people who all need the same thing. You are one person with one business and one set of problems nobody else in that room has.

At the long end sit the institutions. SPJIMR runs an executive AI program for business leaders over 7 months, blended, with a four-day campus immersion in Mumbai, a specialization track in finance, marketing, or manufacturing and supply chain, and a capstone project. The faculty is good and the strategy content is real. What a 7-month blended format cannot do is spend an hour on your sales register.

At the short end sit the online workshops. Be10X runs online AI workshops for working professionals that end in a participation certificate. They are clear about what they sell. A few hours of screens and a framework you can try that evening.

Both ends leave you holding the same thing. Notes, a login, and a certificate. Whether any of it lands in your real work next week is left to you. That is not a failure of the teaching. It is the shape. A curriculum cannot know which of your problems is bleeding this week.

What a consultant or a corporate trainer leaves you with

A consultant leaves you with a deliverable and a number to call for the next one. That is the trade, and for some work it is the right trade. You do not learn to audit your own books, you hire an auditor. The only question is whether AI in your business is that kind of work.

A corporate trainer is the same trade with more chairs in the room. Technovids runs one and two day AI sessions for companies, onsite at your office or virtual, with batches of 8 to 15. Participants practice on business scenarios and get a certificate at the end. That is a sensible buy if you have 15 people who all do similar work.

You do not have those 15 people. You have sales, accounts and operations, and every piece of thinking work lands on your own desk. Nobody in your company owns marketing or analysis or research. So a day of team training trains the wrong people, and a consultant's deck answers one question and leaves the next forty to you.

Six months later the consultant's work is still useful and you still cannot do it yourself. If that is fine with you, stop reading and hire one. It is often fine.

Can someone just teach me AI one to one?

Yes. A coach is the third shape. One person, your work, your documents, your week. A coach brings no syllabus, only the question. You bring the problem that is already sitting in front of you.

That is how A.D.A.P.T. AI Coaching runs. Five sessions of 90 minutes, four to eight days apart, which is enough time to do the homework and not enough to forget it. Roughly a month end to end. Every session runs on your real business. You leave session 1 with a working AI workspace and your first problem picked. You leave session 5 with a custom assistant handling one repeatable task you used to do by hand.

What this shape leaves you holding is the work itself, running. Not notes about the work. By session five your judgment still decides everything. Only the execution has stopped being the bottleneck.

The price of this shape is your attention. Nobody can sit in the chair for you. I take four clients a month and run every session myself.

Answer the question, then pick

Ask it plainly. In six months, do you want to be the one doing this, or do you want it done? Write the answer down, because the honest answer is sometimes "done" and there is nothing wrong with that.

If the answer is done, hire a consultant for the specific piece and move on with your week. If the answer is that you need a view to hold in front of a bank, a board or the family, take the shortest course you can find and stop there. If the answer is that you want to be doing it, no course of any length gets you there. The skill is knowing when an output about your own numbers is wrong, and that can only be practiced on your own numbers.

This week, do one thing. Take the report you read every Monday and ask ChatGPT for the three items in it that need a decision from you. Then check all three against the report yourself. If one of the three is wrong and you caught it, you already have the beginning of the muscle. You need the shape that builds on it, not the shape that explains it. If you want to work out which shape that is, a fit call is the place to do it.

Still not sure which one you need?

Can I not just learn this from YouTube?

You can learn what the tools are. You cannot learn whether an output about your own business is wrong, because no video has your data in front of it. Free material is a sound way to pick up the vocabulary. It stops working at the point where your own numbers enter the chat.

What if my assistant learns it instead of me?

Then your assistant gets faster and the checking still waits for you. Decisions on pricing, credit and people still come to you. Have the assistant learn the typing and learn the checking yourself. That split works well. Handing the whole thing over to someone else does not.

How long before I get something useful out of it?

The first session ends with a working AI workspace and your first business problem picked, so something of yours is in it from the start. Module 1 runs five sessions of 90 minutes, four to eight days apart, roughly a month end to end. What takes the month is the habit of checking every output against what you already know.
